Raggedy Ann and Candy

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

**********************************
Today, I'm reminiscing about one of my earliest memories of
TRICK OR TREATING.
I didn't grow up in the normal household were all the kids got dressed up in their fun costumes each year. My parents frowned upon it and they'd always say "There's nothing to celebrate." The funny thing is that even though "there wasn't anything to celebrate," we always seemed to have our light turned on and candy to hand out. I guess in a way, giving away the precious candy was a good thing and it worked in our favor, because there were a few times when we managed to butter them up into letting us go trick or treating. And when we did, finding a costume was literally a last minute thing. So when the happy kids would show up to our door with their pumpkin baskets overflowing with all that goodness, my parents just could not deny us our happiness any longer. But, like I said, it didn't always work. So the few times it did, the memories are very fond in my mind.

My very first time going trick or treating, I went as Raggedy Ann. I guess looking back my sisters got the short end of the witches' stick. One sister was an Indian, another a Costa Rican traditional dancer, and the other a Costa Rican peasant girl. Raggedy Ann was looking pretty good to me. I was one happy little rag doll.

What a sweet post. I love the picture.
We brought our girls up just knowing that some people take Halloween to an evil bad thing, but we always had fun taking them out trick or treating.

Glad you had a chance to dress up and have fun.

How wonderful it must be to look back at those memories! I love the costumes. The ones you made were so much more fun than the ones you can buy!

Awww....you were just the most precious Raggedy Ann! :> )

Growing up, my family would celebrate Halloween. Now, we go to our church for "trunk-or-treating" with games, a cake walk, chili cook-off, and the pumpkin patch with a hayride. It is all in one place, and TONS of fun.

Thank you for sharing your sweet memories!

Blessings~
